Ricercari is an initiative of musicians active in the field of contemporary music who are aware of the urgency of cultivating a dialogue with early music, with the techniques, instruments and spaces which have made Venetian music famous in the epoch of great splendor, such as the time of the Gabrielis.
As one of the events of Art Night 2018, there will be a concert of organ music on Saturday, 23 June, at 8.30 p.m., with a unique program dedicated to the encounter of early music and contemporary ricercari, a juxtaposition of music from the Venetian repertoire between the 16th and 17th centuries (Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli and Girolamo Frescobaldi) and pieces for organ and electronics in their world premieres composed specially for the organ of the San Giorgio Maggiore Basilica by musicians of the project Ricercari: L.Boldrin (Venice), F.Costanza (Venice), M.Del Prete (Venice), A.GutiƩrrez (Mexico) e A. McCartney (Ireland). In addition to the cited composers, the participants are: Davide Gagliardi (Graz), responsible for the electronics and sound recording, and the organists Marija Jovanic (Belgrad/Venice) and Gilberto Scordari (Bari/Basel). This music was written for one specific instrument and one specific Venetian space, the organ and the space of the San Giorgio Maggiore Basilica, and their encounter with electronics.
