Venice: Palazzo Labia
Friday 14 June at 6 p.m.
For the first time the cultural association MusicaVenezia will present a mime version of “Marc’Antonio e Cleopatra” by J.A. Hasse in the ballroom of the Palace Labia. In this salon Giambattista Tiepolo painted a magnificent cycle of frescoes dedicated to Mark Anthony and Cleopatra.
Hasse wrote this work in Naples in 1725 and one of the singers was the famous castrato Farinelli. Hasse was director of music at the Orphanage Incurabili in Venice and later became director of music in Dresden. He wanted to spend the last years of his life in his beloved Venice. He and his wife are buried in the San Marcuola Church.
