This performance will be the premiere of pieces from the manuscript of the oratorio which has never been published, and which has recently been transcribed by Pier Paolo Ciurlia, a scholar and musician in Venice.
Unlike many representations of St. Nicholas in art, literature, and music, which focus on his miracles, the oratorio tells about his decision as a young man to give up the pleasures of life and dedicate himself to the spirit. The work will be performed by Ensemble Il Sistro Barocco, with musicians who are specialists in the baroque style, and with narration in Italian by Giacomo Trevisan and English by Roberta Reeder. The work will be introduced by Prof. Franco Rossi, Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello, and with Gianni de Luigi as director.
